Dobr vs Samsung Secure Folder
If you own a Galaxy, you already have a good option. Here's how they differ.
Secure Folder is a solid choice on Samsung Galaxy phones: it has its own lock, uses Samsung Knox encryption and can even hold separate copies of apps. Dobr works on any Android phone, needs no account, has no password reset, and with Unlimited lets every pattern open a separate vault.
| Secure Folder | Dobr | |
|---|---|---|
| Phones | Samsung Galaxy only | Any phone on Android 8 or later |
| Lock | Its own PIN, pattern, password or biometrics | Its own pattern on a 4 by 4 grid |
| Account | Samsung account required | None |
| Forgotten lock | Reset with your Samsung account password | No reset |
| Separate copies of apps | Yes | No |
| Decoy vault | No | Yes, with Unlimited |
| Price | Free | Free for one vault of 35 items, then paid |
Where Secure Folder wins
Secure Folder is more than a photo vault. It's a whole separate area of the phone, with its own copies of apps signed in to different accounts. Samsung builds it into Galaxy phones and protects it with Knox. You can hide its icon, and you can move photos straight in from the Gallery app.
If you're on a recent Galaxy and want to hide apps as well as photos, it's hard to beat.
Where Dobr wins
Any Android phone. If you're on a Pixel, a Motorola, a Xiaomi or anything else, Secure Folder isn't an option. Samsung also says some older Galaxy models no longer support it.
No account and no reset. Secure Folder can be reset with your Samsung account password, which is convenient. It also means anyone who gets into that account has a way in. Dobr has nothing to reset, so the only way in is the pattern.
Decoy vaults. With Dobr Unlimited, every pattern opens its own vault. You can show someone a harmless vault and nothing in the app hints that another one exists.
Using both
Nothing stops you. Plenty of Galaxy owners keep apps in Secure Folder and keep photos and documents in a separate vault with a different lock.
