Pixelate or black box?
Pixelation hides faces and number plates well when the blocks are large, and this tool uses big blocks for that reason. Text is a different story. Short strings like document numbers can sometimes be guessed back from pixelated or blurred versions, so use the black box for anything printed on an ID card, bank card or letter.
Sending ID safely
If you're sending a copy of your passport or driving licence, cover the parts the other side doesn't need, then write who the copy is for across it. Our guide on keeping ID photos safe walks through it.
Privacy
Your photo is opened and edited in your browser. Nothing is uploaded and nothing is kept after you close the page. The saved file is a fresh image, so it carries no location data either.
